An Islamic group is calling for protection for the Muslim community following controversial remarks by State Rep. John Bennett, who called Islam “A cancer in our nation that needs to be cut out”. The Council on American-Islamic Relations held a news conference Wednesday outside the state Republican Party headquarters, asking the GOP and party chair Dave Weston to denounce the remarks.
